We've tried several lower end brands and models, but the Gaggia Classic has definitely been money well spent. My husband and I really enjoy drinking coffee- espresso for him and cappuccino for me- and with this unit, we weren't disappointed. It brews cup after cup perfectly every time.
This maker is amazingly simple to use, and you'll be making great espresso minutes after taking it out of the box. There are detailed instructions and a CD to help you if you have any problems. I do recommend watching the CD even if you think you know how to operate it. I removed the water tray before reading the directions. This was a big mistake, because I had a hard time putting everything back together.
It's a sturdy machine that looks really nice and sleek with the stainless steel on my kitchen counter top. It is definitely easy on the eyes.
After doing extensive research on the Internet and talking to several friends who are espresso aficionados, it is clear to me that 0 is the price range you need to be in that will consistently make a good espresso. Gaggia is considered the best of the best and my husband and I have to agree with the experts.

On the left is the Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinder. Burr grinding is supposedly slower and doesn't destroy the subtle flavors of the coffee bean. On the right is the Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker. Reviews on Amazon stated that this maker brewed at the perfect temperature (about 200 degrees). The thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for at least 4 hours and warm for 6-8 hours. I think that thermal carafes are the way to go, warming plates just destroy the coffee flavors. I really wanted to buy a two-in-one grinder/brewer like this one, but I'm always wary of two-in-one appliances. If one of the components breaks, you're often left with a clunky version of the remaining working component, if it works independently at all. I'm an old TV/VCR combo owner and the VCR stopped working leaving me with a very noisy television. The VCR gears would engage/disengage at random times. To sum up, so far these items make me a great deal of fantastic coffee.
