A few nice cappuccino machine images I found:

The subject matter of this diptych isn't quite as ghastly as it may sound from the title.

Inspiration for this shot came from a recent exchange of comments about making cappuccino milk with one of my Flickr contact. I suggested a milk-shake maker could be used to make cappuccino milk in the absence of a steamer or frother on an espresso machine.

So, to practise what I was preaching I dug out this milk-shake maker that was given as a present some years ago and has remained unused since, so I could attempt to make the cappuccino milk to go with my espresso this morning.

As you can see from this diptych it actually worked out quite well after some initial mishaps with hot milk splattering the kitchen, which was my fault as at first I used my usual milk jug rather than the stainless steel mixer that came with the machine. So if anyone gets the idea to try this please, please be careful!

The key principle to making decent cappuccino milk is heating the milk to a correct temperature of between 120C-140C so the sugar in the milk begins to caramelise and pumping in enough air to expand and thicken the milk to the right consistency.

Making a decent espresso coffee is another matter, instant coffee doesn’t make the grade, so it has to be done using a good quality ground coffee bean (I use Costa which is a blend of roasted arabica and robusta coffee beans) made in either an espresso machine (preferably) or cafetiere!

Mind you all that was a walk in the park compared to taking and editing the photograph, which was a right pain due to poor lighting and problems with noise, hence why I’ve done a diptych because I really couldn’t decided which edit to upload!
